Two things happened this past weekend: the Dr. Who season finale aired, we found out who Clara Oswin Oswald is, and I bought a dress that the boyfriend said, “reminded him of Clara.” Seeing as how it was a huge compliment in his mind, I’ll take it!
With Dr. Who‘s latest companion, Clara Oswin Oswald, it’s been amazing to see how fans react to her costumes. There’s so much speculation resulting from what she wore. We all now know (SPOILER!) that she isn’t an incarnation of Rose; Jenna Louise Coleman just looks really damned good in red.
The Impossible Girl has very possible style.
Get Clara Oswin Oswald’s Style:
Clara has the most distinct style of all the companions. It’s refined, and like most women, she has her own “style.” Her wardrobe consists of mostly neutrals: black, grey, and dark greens and blues with lots of red! Red is such a dominant color in her wardrobe that fans took it to mean she was an incarnation of Rose, a previous companion.
She sticks with bold, but muted patterns: dark florals, plaids, and lots of polka dots. The silhouettes are feminine, without being frilly, girly, or over the top. Think sheath dresses and pieces with a vintage 70s shape. Clara is also the most fashion forward companion, featuring trends like buckled motorcycle books, parkas, and high-low hemlines.
Her outfits are formulaic: a dress, black tights, some sort of low motorcycle inspired boot, plus a blazer or jacket. If she wears jewelry, it’s typically a small gold necklace or broach. I love this aspect of her costuming, because most women develop some sort of “uniform” for themselves. You can relate to her.
